First announced in March 2021, a new animated film about the female K-Pop stars on the sidelines of the performance of evil spirits was announced to be developed at the Sony Pictures Animation. Now a year later, a new submission seems to suggest Netflix might be a film distributor.

Variety first launched the project and reported that director Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans were ready to direct. Kang is famous for his work in the film Lego Ninjago while Applehans was involved as a writer and directly on the release of Netflix 2021 Wish Dragon last year (which reportedly got a sequel even though it was unclear whether it would be on Netflix).

Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are writers in the animation project while Aron Warner (Shrek) and Scott Berri are producers.Since the initial announcement, things have been silenced behind the scenes. For the record varieties, the release schedule has not been announced. That’s where we came to Netflix. The two newly registered submissions are binding to the film to Netflix. Some documents show that Netflix took over the release of the film. In recent months, Netflix has also made a submission with similar words for Nimona which was officially launched yesterday.

Of course, even if the film does get the theater run, it will appear on Netflix even if only for the limited time given by Sony and Netflix has the first window agreement as a whole for all Sony films (both live-action and animation) in the US in 2022 .The only two Sony animated films confirmed for the theater release at the time of publishing are the next two Spider-Man: across the Spider-Verse entry which will be released in October 2022 and 2023.The transfer to Netflix will not be completely extraordinary.

In 2021, Netflix partnered with Sony Animation on three projects to help improve the film board that had been influenced by the delay of Covid-19. Wish Dragon, Vivo, and Mitchells vs. Engine are all sold to Netflix. The latter is a great success for Netflix even netting the Oscar nomination.

We will continue to inform you if and when we hear more.
