The motley crew of characters range from the old plutocrat nobles to lately rich industrialists to poor strivers. After the death of her father, youthful Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) moves from pastoral Pennsylvania to the megacity to live with her elitist swell aunt (Christine Baranski). Marian is soon caught up in a social war between Aunt Agnes and the new neighbors, the fat mogul George Russell (Morgan Spector) and his ambitious woman Bertha (Carrie Coon). Agnes and “ good” society argue that there’s only so far new plutocrat goes, but the Gilded Age brings bouleversement and change. It’s truly out with the old and in with the new. – Kelly Woo
