Details about how and when fully vaccinated travellers can return from certain countries without having to quarantine are to be began later.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps will make a press release to MPs this morning.

Currently, those arriving within the UK need to follow strict rules no matter their vaccine status, and anyone coming back from countries on the amber or red list must isolate for 10 days.

Travel bosses have involved the principles to be eased as soon as possible.

The UK’s traffic signal system for international travel remains effective . Fewer than 30 destinations are on the green list – meaning travellers don’t need to self-isolate once they revisit to the united kingdom but they are doing need to buy Covid tests.

More than 50 countries are on the strictest red list, which needs arrivals to pay to self-isolate during a hotel for 10 days.

But most places – including several holiday hotspots like mainland Spain, Greece and therefore the USA – are on the amber list. People coming back from these countries must quarantine for 10 days and buy tests.

But it’s not began how it might work, when it might happen, and whether unvaccinated children would even be ready to avoid quarantine if their parents are fully vaccinated.

In addition to relaxing the principles around isolation for travellers, Chancellor Rishi Sunak told the BBC that the health secretary was considering a “more proportionate and balanced approach” to isolation for Covid contacts.

It comes amid fears that surging cases across the united kingdom will cause many people being asked to self-isolate during the summer, albeit they need been fully vaccinated.

“I recognise people’s frustrations with this. I even have spoken to the health secretary and he’s also conscious of this,” Mr Sunak told BBC Breakfast.

“He’s watching the difference between the 2 systems [contact tracers and therefore the NHS app] and seeing what could be a more proportionate and balanced approach to the present .”

The transport secretary’s travel update within the House of Commons is due at 11:30 BST.

The UK government’s traffic signal system applies to England, with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland ready to make their own rules.

However, the principles are broadly an equivalent and former changes to the lists are adopted by all four nations. .

Allana couldn’t come for her father’s funeral or for Christmas due to the UK’s travel restrictions.

“She wouldn’t are ready to return to high school when she went back to London due to the quarantine,” Melanie tells the BBC, “so she made the difficult decision to remain there.”

Melanie is double-jabbed and hoped to go to her daughter in London this month, but has put it back by a couple of weeks once it became clear the principles weren’t changing. The US is on the UK’s amber list, meaning Melanie would need to quarantine somewhere when she arrives.

Without a home here, she would need to buy a bedroom and tests which she can’t afford. “It would be double the expense and it’s just not really possible,” she says. “It would make it very difficult.”
